When We're 80...

I look forward to having just as much fun, and being just as goofy with you, friends.

This made my week.

The Song is “Hoppípolla” from Takk... by Sigur Rós. The album is amazing, I highly recommend it.

Happiness

It has been a rough time lately, for myself and some people in my life, so I have been working on a list of some things that make me happy.

  • Connecting people
  • Camp fires
  • Road trips
  • Snow
  • Thunderstorms
  • Hot tea
  • Spending quality time
  • Going to concerts
  • Naps
  • Random text messages of love and support
  • Getting fun(ny) nicknames, like “hh gRegor”, “gRegorLove Stallion”, “Hyde”, etc.
  • Christmastime
  • Seeing old friends at Christmas Eve Brunch
  • Making people laugh
  • Writing real letters (and receiving them)
  • Good food with good friends
  • The Tridumbvirate
  • When people humor me about being such a “ladies man”
  • Surprise parties
  • Hugs
  • Swinging (playground swings and front-porch-style bench swings)
  • Recurring silly jokes and references among friends
  • Arriving at Cornerstone Festival
  • Alan's laugh
  • Staying up all hours of the night with friends until slaphappy
  • Seeing loved ones be truly happy
  • California
  • Driving with the windows down on a sunny day or cool night
  • Remembering how much people believe in me
  • Remembering I survived

Obviously that is not everything, but I think it is a good start.

What makes you happy?

Closing or Opening

Just read this on Taylor McKnight's blog and it really resonated with me. It was written by his mom, I just added line breaks and some emphasis as I saw fit.

Right now, and in every now-moment, you are either closing or opening.

You are either stressfully waiting for something – more money, security, affection – or you are living from your deep heart, opening as the entire moment, and giving what you most deeply desire to give, without waiting.

If you are waiting for anything in order to live and love without holding back, then you suffer. Every moment is the most important moment of your life. No future time is better than now to let down your guard and love.

Everything you do right now ripples outward and affects everyone. Your posture can shine your heart or transmit anxiety. Your breath can radiate love or muddy the room in depression. Your glance can awaken joy. Your words can inspire freedom.

Your every act can open hearts and minds. Opening from heart to all, you live as a gift to all. In every moment, you are either opening or closing. Right now, you are choosing to open and give fully or you are waiting.

How does your choice feel?

Amazing.

How are you living?

I initially saw this video last month and for some reason keep forgetting to write about it, even though it's amazing.

Randy Pausch is a 46-year-old professor who has terminal pancreatic cancer. He was told back in August to expect three to six months of good health. He's married and has three preschool-age children. Despite this sad situation, he is in great shape physically and gave a remarkable lecture titled “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams.” You would not know by this man's demeanor that he is dying. It's about an hour and a half long, but I recommend taking the time to watch it, you'll be inspired.

“And the Lord answered me, and said, write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.”

Habakkuk 2:2

I have used every
situation every circumstance
to change your heart beat
to beat with Mine.

you will know what
is on your Father's heart
because it will be on
yours

you will know what
breaks your Father's heart
because it will break yours

your new rhythm beats
for the lost in worship
to me. It's the rhythm
that will be heard
by everyone you encounter
your heart beat is not
your own.

I did not write this, and the person who actually wrote it down is not of significance.

God – the author – is.
