July is Disability Pride Month!

The Author

Hi there, my name is gRegor Morrill,1 a.k.a. gRegorLove (he/him) and I’ve been writing on this website in one form or another since about 2000. I am a big advocate for having your own corner of the web to share your voice and be creative on. Go #indieweb!

I spent a large chunk of my life in the Midwest US. Indianapolis and Chicago still have a special place in my heart, but I’m living in San Diego now. It’s pretty great, too, especially come wintertime.

I love music and during the Indiana chapter of my life, I promoted concerts off and on for several years. It was a lot of fun and something I basically got into by accident.

I used to be pretty right-libertarian politically, though the more I’ve learned about anarchism, I’ve moved leftward. I’ve found that side of the political spectrum more consistent on issues and appreciate the work towards liberation for all.

Along with that, community care and mutual aid have become really important to me. The ongoing pandemic has highlighted the importance of solidarity with the disabled and immunocompromised — taking simple steps to keep each other safer, like cleaning the air and wearing well-fitting respirators. I try to advocate for these layered mitigations wherever I can.

My spiritual journey has been complex, but here is an attempt to summarize: I grew up in non-denominational Christian (evangelical) churches and had a fairly narrow view of what it meant to be a “real Christian.” As I’ve grown older, I’ve realized there are many different ways Christians practice their faith. These days, I’ve landed on the more progressive side of Christianity and am interested in liberation theology. I think a good motto to live by is Sister Helen Prejean’s quote “find and respect the human dignity.

1 Yes, “Gregor is a weird name” and gRegor is a weird capitalization

Pronunciation

There are a few ways to pronounce my first name. I’m not too picky about it, so use whichever you prefer. If your browser supports Speech Synthesis and javascript, these buttons should play the pronunciation:

IPA: /grɛgər mɔrəl/

The Ladies Man

gRegorLove Many years ago, my friend Phil Rivera found humor in my name and would often say, “Greg-or. Greg or what?” He pointed out that the name was not complete because there was nothing after the “or.” Then he dubbed me gRegorLove with the simple reasoning that, “it's who you are.” I did not care for the name at first, but I was just in denial. I soon realized that women everywhere were swooning over me, so it was a fitting name.

Not long after that, I was working on a new theme for my personal site. I thought having an online wife application was a fun idea, and thus gRegorLove.com was born on Valentine's Day, 2000. While much has changed over the years, the wife application has been a mainstay and has proved to be quite popular.
