Privacy Policy
Updated
I take visitor privacy seriously, so I will do my best to document transparently how your information is stored and used when you interact with my site. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
Submitting Comments
When you fill out the comment form on one of my posts, the information you enter is stored in the site’s database along with your IP address, your browser’s user agent string, and the referring URL.
The information you enter, your IP address, your browser’s user agent string, and referring URL will be provided to the Akismet service to evaluate if the comment is spam. For more information, visit akismet.com and read their privacy policy.
If you enter an email address, an anonymous hash of your email will be provided to the Gravatar service to determine the profile photo to display, if any. Your email address will not be provided directly to Gravatar. For more information, visit gravatar.com and read their privacy policy.
Webmentions
When this site receives a Webmention as notification a source URL has linked to it, the Webmention request is stored in the site’s database along with the IP address. The source URL will be fetched and parsed to verify that it links to this site. If microformats are found in the source URL, they will be stored in the database as well. The parsed microformats are used to display richer comments and interactions with the author’s name, photo, and comments.
This site uses Bridgy to receive Webmentions for public interactions on other services like Twitter, Instagram, and Mastodon. Bridgy does not send Webmentions for interactions from protected or private accounts.
Content Removal
If you would like to request removal of your content that appears on this site, whether from commenting or from Webmentions, please contact me.
Signing In
When you enter your email address on the sign-in form, it is stored in the database. This is done so a message with a unique sign-in link can be sent to that email. No other messages are sent to your email unless you subscribe to the newsletter.
Newsletter Subscription
After signing in, you may choose to subscribe to a weekly or monthly newsletter digest of my posts. These newsletters are generated by this site, so your email address will not be provided to other services.
You may unsubscribe at any time by signing in and selecting the unsubscribe option, or by contacting me.
Cookies
This site is built using ProcessWire. That software sets a cookie named wires
which is a simple, anonymous identifier that can be used by session-based functions of the site, like signing in. This cookie expires when the browser is closed and is not used to track you between visits.
