Dead-simple mindfulness thing I've been trying: bring someone to mind and think “I wish for them to be happy.”

Seems like a simplified version of the classic metta meditation. It's easy when you like the person, or have no opinion of them. It's not so much when you dislike them, or they hurt you. It's never not a good idea, though. Rock on

In the episode he describes how he gave a "homework" exercise of doing this on-the-hour while at work, for two people outside of the office. The next day he heard from a woman who said she absolutely hated her job. She'd done the exercise just one day, and said it was the happiest she's felt at her job in 7 years.

Very true that it's hard when there's strife/trauma with the person. Hopefully there's enough "neutral" people that this can be beneficial with, though. I don't know much about meditation yet, but this seems like a good building-block.

The Headspace app has a good free intro series on meditation I found useful.

The important thing though, is allowing yourself time to reflect.

Gregor Morrill honestly, I almost find it more of an uplifting experience when its for someone I have negative feelings for. It clears out my own gunk in the process

I've found myself doing this occasionally with perfect strangers that I've never seen before. It feels good.
