Weekly Roundup

It’s finally been cooling off and feeling more like fall (well, for San Diego) and I’m loving it after the summer heat. I’ve already enjoyed a pumpkin cream chai latte and an apple crisp macchiato. ☕🎃

I think I’ll tag the music challenge thing that I’m doing with #TodaysAlbum. Here are some of the albums I listened to this week:

  • I started with a nostalgic one from my teens: Jesus Freak by DC Talk. I’m in a different place with my faith these days, but the music and vocals on this hold up. I did chuckle at the lyric “they don’t seem to care-o. This is my generation, drowning in despair-o.”
  • Then I listened to K.Flay’s new album, MONO. High energy music as usual from her. The song “Punisher” has a really good groove.
  • I think my favorite of the week was the new-to-me Resistance Revival Chorus, “...a collective of more than 60 women, and non-binary singers, who join together to breathe joy and song into the resistance, and to uplift and center women’s voices.” It was moving and joyful, indeed, from “All You Fascists Bound To Lose” to “Dawn.” The album is appropriately named This Joy and I highly recommend it.
  • Laurie recommended Little Dragon’s Ritual Union. I had only listened to a couple of their songs previously. This was a solid album, really catchy. Recommended if you need a pick-me-up or want to get up and dance.

Let me know if you have any album recommendations, new or old!

I got the updated COVID and flu vaccines on Monday — no adverse reactions. I was pleasantly surprised to see all the pharmacists masked as well!

In some good news, starting September 25 you can get four free COVID tests sent to you again. Sign up at covidtests.gov. If you don’t have insurance, check vaccines.gov for how you might get the vaccine for free. Filter by “Bridge Access Program” when using their search. If you catch COVID, check out test2treat.org for free telehealth, tests, and assistance getting medication delivered.

The virus is still spreading rampantly, so please wear the best mask you can when indoors or in crowded outdoor settings. Let’s keep each other safe out there! 💛
