Going to good concerts doesn't suck
As mentioned previously, this past weekend I went to two concerts. I went primarily to see Wolfy, but was rather impressed with most of the other bands, too. Friday night, unfortunately, I got there a bit late due to work, and missed Wolfy. Apparently they played first. That was a bummer, but I knew they would be playing Saturday night and that I didn't have work or anything else that would keep me from being on time. The other bands Friday night were Emory Salem, Loretta, Black Soil Project, 7 Degrees From Center, and Rev. Peyton's Big Damn Band. Saturday night it was several of the same bands, plus The Swell, The Common, and Undefeatable Beats. I got some peektures of the Saturday night show.
emory salem
These guys were fun. An acoustic guitar, an Apple, a keyboard, and a backup vocalist that also painted on an overhead projector. Best way I can think to describe them is Pedro the Lion meets The Postal Service. “Folktronica” as they called it, I believe. These were the first pictures I took with a borrowed digital camera.. didn't realize the flash wasn't on, but the result was pretty cool anyway.
wolfy
Wolfy. So hot right now. Wolfy.
I can't say enough about these guys.. I'm very excited about their music. They're piano-driven rock and put on quite a good live show and they were received quite well by the audience. They rated it their best show yet, which is always good. There's some Quicktime clips of their set on their site worth checking out. As you can see, they're Eisley fans too. w00t!
undefeatable beats
I was expecting a hip-hop group, and they kind of were, but more like world music I guess you'd say. The 10 or so people in the group started out with a drum circle, complete with people doing all sorts of tribal/break dances. It was great, and the audience was groovin' to it. Then when they got on stage they did a hip-hop song using drums, rhodes piano, and a cappella for the beat.. they were quite impressive. I was surprised to find that they're locals, too. I look forward to hearing more.
Yes, my digital camera skills are suck, but if I was given more time to play with it I bet they'd be better.

I'm lame because I didn't realize you all were at the show. I was in the same building... I probably would have gone in if I had realized you were there and that the bands were actually pretty good. Oh well.
