Jimmy Eat World performing with backdrop obscured so it looks like 'My Eat World'

Saw one of my favorites last night, My Eat World.

Jimmy Eat World is always a great show, but this one was particularly fire. Great mix of Futures, Bleed American, and some songs they don't play live often, like “Blister.”

Having a normal Friday night. How about you?

myself in front of a graffiti mural of the word 'love' written repeatedly in cursive

Well, it’s been almost five years. Time for a new profile photo.

I’m really pleased with how this came out, particularly since it was an offhand “hey, get my picture in front of this since I'm gRegorLove” as we walked by the mural in Hillcrest.

Previously

myself giving a thumbs up with a big smile and a 'I got my Covid vaccine' sticker on my shirt

Circle circle, dot dot, I just got my (first) Covid shot.

It felt surreal when I was next in line, realizing I had been waiting a whole year for this and it was actually finally happening.

selfie where my hair was rather wavy

I kind of had Farrah hair the other day. #wavy

My Christmas card this year is courtesy of Bitmoji. Merry potato!

myself wearing a navy button-down shirt and pajama pants. Tag on my shirt has the Zoom logo and meeting ID: 867-5309

I’m a Zoom Work Call for Halloween.

Oh, I also got my hairs cut about a month ago.

pink sky just after sunset reflected in the wet sand
Pink Sky, Pink Sand

My mental health has not been great lately. I’ve been feeling pretty stressed out and all over the emotional spectrum. On Saturday I decided go to the beach at sunset. I always find that soothing. I really liked the symmetry of the pink sky being reflected on the wet sand.

I finished watching The Good Place recently and loved it. They talk about one Buddhist conception of death being an ocean wave that crashes on the shore. The wave is gone, but the water is still there. I thought about that as I watched the waves and took some moments to breathe and be present.

selfie with my hair down to my eyes, clearly in need of a haircut

Wanted: haircut. Or emo bandmates?

selfie holding a sunflower over my mouth and chin

Beard is coming along nicely.

As much as I’d like to, I’m not going to any cookouts today — playing it safe due to increased Covid cases. Sarah 5 and Elliott dropped off some food and this sunflower on my doorstep, though, so that was nice.

Felt cute, might quarantine later

giant robot face with text 'made in austin'

Remembering my trip to Austin in the Before Times (February).

cover of Mike McHargue's book, You're a Miracle (And a Pain in the Ass)

Really looking forward to reading Mike McHargue’s new book! I also highly recommend his podcast, Ask Science Mike, and his first book, Finding God in the Waves.

I’m on about day 11 of my quaranbeard. Not sure what I think about it yet, but I’m sticking it out for a while. How is your beard treating you?

My drawing of 'Darth ASCII'

Meet Darth ASCII.

Tonight I learned about Maxwell Joslyn’s Sith Lord Challenge. The idea is to draw your conception of a Sith Lord, name it, and submit it.

Before I had even looked at other entries, I asked, “do we have to be good at drawing?” to which he replied, “most decidedly not.” In the submission section it mentions you can text it to him, which made me joke, “can we submit ASCII Sith Lords?” And thus the seed for this idea was planted.

I enjoyed the creative challenge of picking characters that would work and am really pleased with the result. The exclamation point for the light saber jumped out right away. Then the A for the body. I first used a u for the lower face and was quite happy when it also made a ventilator. Add umlauts for eyes? Perfect.

Check out Maxwell’s page and submit your own!

This post is brought to you by the letters A, ü, j, C, and punctucation !

Card and envelope which had a smaller card inside. Smaller card reads ‘Are you a magician??? Because abraca-DAYUM’

Yo dawg, we heard you like cards so we put a card inside your card.

The small card is about 3 inches and was inside its own tiny envelope. Many thanks to Isha for these. <3
